I'd say if you wanna know about Silent Hill the movie is a good start to get the characters but you really need to play the games to get the full awesomeness lol there's a pretty wide variety of monsters and characters to choose from, you could have a go at Mary, Maria or Angela (you can google them for pics lol) from SH2 which would be easy cosplays although they aren't likely to be recognised outside of a SH group cosplay since their clothes are pretty much generic.
The story of the whole series is MASSIVELY complex and it varies from game to game quite a lot but to get you started thet jist of it is that there's this town (Silent Hill) that used to have a freaky cult thingy going on who basically unleashed (or at least tried to unleash) the devil and basically ruled with an iron fuckin' fist over everyone with evil zealotry and all that, then they were in one way or another pushed out and the town became a resort. Basically people from the cult in some way or another remained hanging around and doing not too nice stuff. Then the leader took her daughter who questionably had special powers and burned her alive to try and birth the devil from her (yeah, it's more complex than that but I'm trying to keep it brief lol), but basically, daughter survives barely and is holed up in a hospital basement and kept a secret and eventually becomes so hurt and miserable that she uses her powers to create a whole world of hurtin' (lol) for the cult memebers and drags them all into it. That's basically the background to all the games and then each one has a story tht develops the idea differently but also in a way that links up.
It's confusing as hell I know but the movie sticks resonably close to the source material and sums it up decently (well, the story of the 1st game anyway) so you can get a good idea of what it's about from watching that, even if the games are 1,000,000% better ha ha.

I don't really mind who I cosplay as long as it ties in with your costumes, if you know what I mean. But I'll probably get round to watching them and prehaps playing them, I have quite a bit of time before May expo ^w^

I'd recommend playing them before you watch the movie just cuz the movie will be full of plot holes if you havent played the game because it fails lol.
You can probably get the games on Ebay pretty cheap, take a look
I'm off to lube my helmet. Oh christ that sounds awful, what I mean to say is, I made my PH helmet collapsible but the hinges are really tight and keep coming off so I need to lube them so they actually fold lol.... I'll just walk away slowly now ha ha
